Choosing the Right Gutter Color

There are several factors to consider when choosing the right gutter color. The color of your gutters is just as important as other external features, and matching the gutters to the existing color scheme will enhance your home’s aesthetic beauty and curb appeal.

Generally speaking, the goal is to keep the gutter color neutral and have it blend into the home. Avoid choosing a contrasting color that makes them stand out. Most people prefer to match their gutters to their trim or roof, and keep the downspouts the same color as their siding.

Matching the Trim & Fascia BoardGutter Color
Gutters that match a home’s trim color always look nice, because the gutters enhance and outline the home. This is especially true for brick homeswhere it may be difficult to match gutter color to brick color.

Having gutters the same color as the fascia board keeps the color scheme consistent and adds to the external beauty of your home. If your fascia board is white, then you will want to stick with white gutters, or consider repainting the fascia board.

Matching the Roof
Matching the gutters to the roof is a good choice if you want the gutters to look like an extension of your roofline. Depending on the roof color, stick with neutral browns/tans/beiges to blend the gutters into the roofline.

Matching the SidingDownspout Color
Depending of your roof pitch and style, it may look best to have your gutters match the siding or external walls. Many people prefer to have their downspouts, or vertical gutter pieces, match the siding color so that they blend into the house. As you can see from the photo, we did a neutral brown downspout to match the neutral tones of the brick.

Prime and White Gutters
The most economical color options are prime and white. Choose prime gutters if you plan on painting them yourself or hiring a painting contractor to paint the gutters at a later date.

White gutters are the most popular choice in the Portland, Oregon area. This may have to do with the fact that many homes already have white fascia boards, but we install white gutters on approximately 70% of our customers’ homes.

Custom Gutter ColorColonial Gray Gutter
While custom colored gutters will run you about $.60 to $1 more per linear foot, they pay for themselves in terms of added function and curb appeal, while increasing the value of your home. Pre-painted or powder coated gutters have the color baked into the metal, so the color won’t peel, chip or crack. We can install a variety of custome gutter colors including blue, red, black, royal brown, green, colonial gray (as pictured to the right) and many more. Check out a sample of our gutter colors.

Choosing the right gutter color will depend on your home’s roofline, siding material and of course your personal preference and budget. Our estimators will be happy to discuss your ideas and go over color options with you. In the meantime, submit a free gutter estimate so we can schedule a time to come out and preview your gutter project.
